With 2,400 members, ASAPS is the only plastic surgery organization devoted entirely to the advancement of cosmetic surgery. ASAPS is recognized worldwide as the authoritative source for cosmetic surgery education (from http://www.surgery.org/). In May 2007, the ASAPS warned patients against the use of injection fat loss treatments known as lipolysis, lipotherapy, or lipodissolve. The warning stated that none of these procedures have received FDA approval, and published peer-reviewed scientific reports of properly performed clinical trials to confirm safety or efficacy do not exist.
